Alcohol inks... what's the difference between them all?

Alcohol Ink art is an amazing abstract art medium that works with inks to blend, layer and create a unique artwork! We have the biggest range of Alcohol Inks in Australia with 5 different brands, over 530 inks to choose from with a large variety of lighter, darker, bolder & softer colours to choose from!

You can easily blend your own colours together to create the unique tones you're after, plus they are fast drying, Alcohol based and are a really fun medium to work with. Anyone can give it a go and you don't need much to get you started!

Pinata Alcohol Inks - Are beautiful, highly saturated pigmented inks that are acid-free and are more heavily pigmented than our other Alcohol Ink brands. They have more intense bold colours. This ink brand has less choice of colour tones to pick from but have the advantage of being able dilute them with Isopropyl Alcohol or Blending Solution to get different colour strengths - they also have a very popular metallic range.

All 27 inks available in a 14ml and 120ml bottle.

Ranger Alcohol Inks - is one of the most popular inks we sell here out of the 5 we have! Made by Tim Holtz, there are nearly 100 assorted beautiful colours. They have a large colour range stocking Pearls, Mixatives (metallics), Alloys & their standard range which allows for a lot of artists to get the ones they're after. They are low viscosity and perfect for use on non porous surfaces (like Yupo paper and Aluminium art boards).  Available in a 14ml bottle or selected colours in their larger 59ml bottle.

Copic Alcohol Inks - Copic Ink refill bottles are more professional inks lots of artists tend to use due to the ink itself being very close and accurate to the colour on the lid - so you always know what you're going to get. These come in a 12ml bottle and have a large range of colours with some beautiful hues to pick from. You can of course blend down these inks to get different tones as well. The bottles have a dripper tip and are very easy to use and control how much ink comes out.

Couture Alcohol Inks - 12ml Couture Inks have a Fluro, Glitter, Pearl and Standard range for you to pick from with 80 inks collectively in their range. Couture Inks are perfect if you're after lighter, softer inks! They aren't as pigmented as the other brands we stock. Great for if you want softer effects in your Alcohol Ink artworks as they aren't as bold or pigmented, but the Fluro, Glitter & Pearl inks have a lot to offer and add to your artworks. Beautiful for pastel and the lighter tones you might want in your Alcohol Ink collection!

Mepxy Alcohol Inks - 30ml per bottle - the largest out of all the brands we stock where they even have a measurement down the side so you can see how much ink you have left as you're using it! These inks hold more than double the other brands we stock but arent double the price. They are fast drying & non toxic. These bottles are free standing and are very sturdy. They have a very easy to use ink dropper/tip with colours coming in both a variety of lighter and darker shades.

We teach multiple Alcohol Ink Classes here based in Melbourne. We also sell x4 Alcohol Ink Starter Kits where you get Yupo Paper and different coloured inks to work with.

The best surfaces for Alcohol Inks are Yupo paper synthetic paper, NARA Paper, Alcohol Ink art boards / coasters. We recommend these because they are a non porous surface and if you don’t like your artwork you can remove it with isopropyl and start again.

To complete your artwork you need some accessories like Isopropyl Alcohol to blend your inks, Pipettes, Pin dropper bottles and sprays to seal them with - either Krylon Kamar Varnish (must spray multiple layers first) then the Krylon Sprays Gloss & Matte UV resistance spray or our Clear Gloss Protectant Spray.
